A Brief History of “Windows of Opportunity”
A video message to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in reply to the conclusion in the final paragraph of the IPCC, AR6, WG1, SPM report that was released on February 27, 2022, that says in part:
“Any further delay in concerted anticipatory global action on adaptation and mitigation will miss a brief and rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all.”
This video was inspired by a recent video posted by Sam Mitchell on his excellent channel, Collapse Chronicles.
Gratitude to Sam for bringing the Associated Press reference to my attention from 1989.

You forgot 1989:
Well … yeah, totally missed that one. I’ll add it into the comments (and re-do video). Many thanks!
Wow that’s an impressively done video!
The window on preventing climate catastrophe has always been closed because the love of money is the root of our culture, it’s the central organizing principle or our way of life, it’s the true idol that our culture worships, and money in our world is petrodollars.
We have always been doomed. Our central organizing national document began with its “petrodollars” being human chattel slavery. Our central organizing religious document begins with human domination and exploitation of the natural world.
One way or another, the oppression and murder of large classes of people and of the environment has been baked in from the start. When you see the yachts parked in the Maldives, you know in your gut that if you are not one of the murdered now, you will be eventually. There’s a whole transnational group of criminal billionaire yachtsmen with allegiance to no nation and no other principle than maximum exploitation. Some of them served in the last presidential cabinet. Some of them control the levers of power right now. This is where we have arrived. The same place where we started.
Thanks for your video complement!
Not sure money has anything to do with it. We were killing species and the planet long before money was around. Wealth (and oil) just accelerated it a bit. As you say, it was baked in from the start. Part of our genetics to do this. We just happen to be the (un)lucky humans to be alive when it all comes to pass.
